Due to their being no existing Bhangra Magazines, i will be research and analysing magazines presented by the Indian culture.
Im aware this is not a music magazine, however this magazine will still influence me.
This magazine has the main colour and house style of red as the mast head and the cover lines are also red. the model is also wearing a red dress which links in well.
The masthead is in front of the models head which i don't particularly like, and i will certainly break conventions by overlapping the model on to my mast head if I need to but however will still make the masthead clear and easy to read.
The cover has 4 stories on and also has no barcode, the cover also has no puffs pugs or banners. I would change the 29th year anniversary into a puff, and id also have a banner at the bottom of the cover which has a further story in as well as the barcode.
However I do like how they have used red writing and made it readable by over lapping the story on to her hair. I feel that is very clever and as my model has dark hair i shall also do this and use white writing.
Underneath the masthead is the sell line which is the "29th anniversary" which is also red and has used a serif font which is very elegant, and will cause the readers to want to buy the magazine. But, like i mentioned earlier I would have put it in a puff and I would not have placed this over the models hair as much as it makes it slightly less readable.
The main image of the young Indian lady suggests she is very gentle and innocent, despite being rather revealing. This links into Laura Mulveys "male gaze" as she has very sultry make up and this links into the cover line which is over lapping the image using the word "sexual" and using that in a large font, attracting the reader to that instantly.
The background is very simple and clear and I will have a similar background because therefore it will emphasise the image. The elegance of the font and the gesture of the image suggest the target audience is for an older age and more mature audience.
How this research has influenced my creativity and planning:
This magazine has informed me that for my magazine to look more professional i should use banners and puffs, as i don't feel this magazine has the professional feel i would hope that my magazine will be presented with.
However this magazine has influenced me on how to work with Asian models and to use their dark hair almost as a prop when taking my photographs as they can almost be used as a banner and allow more colours of writing to over lap.
